| We are here today to remember Caroline Lane for her strength, her love and devotion to her family and others..
It is easy for us to focus on the painful process of aging and Alzhemiers that robbed her of vitality and clarity in these last few years, but I choose to think of her as she was when I first met her. I was 16 years old when I first met her and Chuck and she has been a part of my life for 41 years. She became my Mother-in-law. When I think about Caroline's life, I realize that she was a person deeply committed to the welfare of others, devoted to her family, and selfless in her love. I want to remember the good times, her laughing and having a good time. As we stood by her bedside in her last hour, in my mind, I saw her at Heaven's shore, and on the other side she saw her parents, sisters, and infant son Cody waiting for her. She turned with tears in her eyes and saw her family left here on earth and saw the pain we were feeling at our loss, but God took her hand and told her, that her work on earth was done and it was time to go home. Today I know that she is looking down on us and she sees our pain and our tears, but she is also rejoicing because she is whole again. There is no more pain for her and when our work on earth is done, she will be there on those shores of heaven to welcome each one of us as we cross over. It's OK to shed tears at our loss and to miss her, but we also need to remember the good times we all shared with her, and to know that death isn't the end, it's part of life and at the end of our time on earth and God calls us home we will see her again. |
