| Each time I don my uniform , My heart is filled with pride,
I start upon my daily ride , My partner at my side; I think of all my loved ones, And I think about the guys, Who face each day with courage With faith and compromise; I strongly feel the honor To serve my fellow man , And to keep out Law and Order In the best way that I can; I have a special duty For I must uphold the law, But the fact remains I'm human So I'll think before I draw; Like any other mortal, Each policeman has a name, By any name, so like a rose, It is still the same; I shall not fear corruption, Nor violence I may see, But fear is also in the brave, My duty reigns with me; Should I go down in battle And my partner's left to live, He'll carry on for the two of us, For there's no alternative; My buddies know that where I fell Through glory and through hell, A man who does his job should Know if he has done it well; I received at graduation time This shield for all to see I vowed that I'd out shine my shield It would not out shine me; At the close of the day When I've checked in, And I am home once more, I pray my neighbor thinks of me As just the guy next door.... |
